A Call for Accountability and Justice: Here is the Verge of Brahmanical Attitude of BJP

The recent incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi, where a tribal labourer was subjected to a dehumanizing act by an individual associated with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has ignited a firestorm of outrage and condemnation across the nation. This appalling act not only calls for immediate justice for the victim but also shines a harsh spotlight on the Brahmanical Hindutva attitude that seems to permeate BJP.

The video that surfaced, showing a man urinating on the face of a tribal man while smoking a cigarette, is a stark reminder of the prevailing social disparities and discrimination faced by marginalized communities, especially tribal populations. The accused, reportedly a close aide of BJP MLA Kedar Nath Shukla, has since been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the IPC, the Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the National Security Act. However, the incident raises broader questions about the toxic attitudes that may persist withinthe ruling party.

The Political Backdrop and Denial of Association

Allegations and counter-allegations about the accused’s association with the BJP MLA have surfaced, highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability within the political sphere. Rather than acknowledging the incident and expressing empathy for the victim and his community, some BJP leaders have attempted to downplay the gravity of the situation or deflect responsibility.

The denial of association and the accusations of political misuse serve as a reminder that political affiliations should never be used as a shield for wrongdoings. The incident underscores the importance of conducting an impartial investigation, ensuring justice is served without any bias or influence. As citizens of a democratic nation, the political parties and we must collectively condemn such acts of cruelty and demand accountability from those in positions of power.

Why is there a Need for Genuine Equality and Inclusivity?

The incident in Sidhi is not an is their act of violence. It reflects a broader pattern of discrimination and inequality faced by marginalised communities, particularly tribal populations. India’s democratic ethos demand that every individual, regardless of caste or background, is treated with dignity and respect.

It demands that we confront the Brahmanical Hindutva attitude that may persist within the BJP and our society. They must move towards a more inclusive, empathetic, and just future, where every citizen, regardless of their background, feels valued and respected.

The BJP claims to uphold the principles of Hindutva, but it is essential to ensure that these principles do not perpetuate discrimination or violence against vulnerable communities.

Why is there a need for Strengthening Laws and Effective Implementation?

The SCs & STs Act is in place to safeguard the interests of marginalized communities, yet they continue to face discrimination and violence. The incident in Sidhi underscores the importance of not only having robust laws but also ensuring their effective implementation.

It is the duty of the government to enforce these laws and protect the rights of all citizens, especially those from marginalized communities. By allowing such incidents to occur and not providing adequate protection to vulnerable populations, the government sends a distressing message that some lives are valued less than others.

In the same way, law enforcement agencies should undergo sensitivity training to handle cases involving marginalized communities with utmost care and understanding. This will help build trust between the police and citizens, fostering a safer environment for all.

To address these systemic issues, we need holistic and sustainable solutions. Governments, both at the state and central levels, must prioritize policies that empower tribal communities and protect their rights. Land rights, in particular, are crucial for the socio-economic empowerment of these communities. Implementing the Forest Rights Act effectively and ensuring its enforcement will go a long way in safeguarding the rights of forest-dwelling tribal communities.

Why the ruling Party, The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister must be ashamed?

The fact that such an incident could occur, and worse, be recorded and shared, calls for serious introspection on our socio-political values and the attitudes of those in power. The BJP has always projected itself as a champion of Hindutva and has consistently appealed to its core base through identity politics. However, this incident challenges the narrative of unity and cultural pride that the party claims to embody. Such acts of violence against marginalized communities expose a darker side to the political discourse that we must address urgently.

The response from the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, who are representatives of the entire nation and state, respectively, has been insufficient and inadequate. A situation as grave as this demands a prompt and unequivocal denouncement from the highest authorities, sending a clear message that such acts of discrimination and violence will not be tolerated.

Their failure to address this incident with the seriousness it deserves not only undermines the quest for justice but also perpetuates the perception that certain individuals associated with the ruling party might act with impunity. The silence or inadequate response from the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister raises questions about their commitment to upholding the principles of justice and equality.

Criticism of the Brahmanical Hindutva attitude of the BJP is not new. The party’s ideological foundation has been based on promoting a certain brand of Hindu nationalism, which often sidelines or oppresses the interests of minority groups. This attitude is evident in various instances, where religious and cultural identities have been weaponized to marginalize those who do not fit into a narrow definition of “Hindutva.” The tribal communities, who are integral to the fabric of our diverse nation, often find themselves caught in the crossfire of such polarizing ideologies.

However, criticism of the Brahmanical attitude of the ruling party does not imply an attack on Hinduism or any specific religious beliefs. It is a call for introspection and reform within political ideologies and practices that may perpetuate discrimination and exclusivity. Embracing the true spirit of Humanity, which upholds the values of compassion, tolerance, and respect for all living beings, is essential in building a more inclusive and harmonious society.

This incident not only tarnishes the reputation of the BJP but also reflects poorly on the entire political system. It highlights the urgent need for political leaders to embrace a more inclusive and empathetic approach towards marginalized communities. Rather than perpetuating divisive narratives, our political leaders must work towards fostering a sense of unity and understanding among all citizens.

Education and awareness campaigns are essential in creating a more empathetic and inclusive society. Educational institutions should promote diversity and multiculturalism, fostering an environment where students are encouraged to celebrate India’s rich tapestry of cultures and traditions. Dialogue and engagement between communities can break down barriers and dispel misconceptions, paving the way for mutual respect and understanding.

Beyond political affiliations, civil society organizations, media, and citizens must come together to advocate for the rights of marginalized communities. We must create an environment where incidents like the one in Sidhi are met with swift and unequivocal condemnation from all corners of society. Unity in condemning such acts sends a powerful message that they have no place in our civilizational values.
